THE BASICS

Who is Emma?

Emma Sinclair is a Waikato based nutritionist, foodie and local food lover.  She started the business 6 years ago and develops all of the wonderful recipes each week along with a trusted team of wonderfully enthusiastic people.

What exactly is a food bag?

The food bag concept originates in Emma’s native Sweden, and has taken Europe and the world by storm!  Although there are variations, in a nutshell it’s recipes and ingredients from a set menu for weeknight dinners, delivered to your home.

What’s in the bag?

We deliver meat, vegetables, dry-goods and deli items – all perfectly portion sized and as locally sourced as possible. To reduce the amount of packaging we use, we don’t send out basic store cupboard items that most people would typically have at home e.g. stock, oils, vinegars and basic spices. We list all of the additional ingredients required on each meals page on the menu.

THE MENU

When are the menu’s published and when must I order by?

Each week our orders cutoff at 4pm Monday for the delivery the following Saturday.  As soon as the order cut off occurs we upload the menu for the following week.  We need a few days lead time to ensure our many suppliers have enough time to organise their stock and deliver to us.  We are unable to bend our cutoff time so we are sorry if you’ve missed this weeks delivery but feel free to pop an order in for next week!

Please understand that we do order exactly as much produce and ingredients as we will need to meet orders and no more. That means if you haven’t ordered in time chances are we won’t be able to deliver a bag to you that week. If you have placed an order after the cutoff time anticipating the meal bag to be delivered this coming Saturday and don’t want it the following week we can cancel your order as long as you tell us before the coming Monday by 4pm. If you tell us after the following Monday 4pm we will always try to help re home your bag, however if a home cannot be found, you will still be obliged to purchase the bag.

How often do you repeat your meals?

As a rule we will bring you new and inspirational recipes every week of every year!  However, some of our meals are so popular we would feel mean not repeating them.

 

YOUR ORDER

When and how can I order?

You can order from this weeks menu up until the cut off time – Monday 4pm.  You cannot order this menu to be delivered the following Saturday.  We are working on a new system that will allow you to order for weeks in advance.  This will be available very soon!

I’d like to order a one-off, will I have to commit to a subscription?

Not at all!  You can order week by week if you like.  Just click into the Full menu page, add the meals you would like and check out.  You won't be committing to any on going orders.  
 

Can I get meals to be delivered automatically every week?

For sure!  Click the Weekly Meal Bag option of the Menu bar and choose from either a Full menu recurring order or an Express Bag recurring order.  You can choose to receive 3, 4 or 5 meals each week.  You can login and change your selection for the upcoming Saturday delivery up until Monday at 4pm.  Or you can leave it with us and we will send you our latest recipes.  You can pause or cancel at any time hassle free and penalty free as long as you cancel before the order cut-off (Monday at 4pm)

 

PAYMENTS

How do I make payment?

Payment for one off orders are made by credit/debit card via Shopify Payments.  As payments are made through Shopify payments we do not store your credit card details on our website.

Payments for Recurring Meal Bags are taken through Stripe.  These generally go through at Midnight Sunday/Monday.  If your payment fails you will be notified and will try again on Monday.  If we don't receive payment by 4pm on Monday we will pause your subscription and we won't send you a meal bag that week.

If your payment has been taken on Sunday night and you decide you don't want an order for the following weekend then please get in touch with us by Monday at 4pm.  If we hear from you after that we may not be able to cancel your order as we will have already ordered the food to make it.  Please call us to discuss, we will find a solution that works for everyone.

 

DELIVERY

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver to all main centres across the North Island of New Zealand.   We do not currently offer a rural delivery but we can deliver to pickup points located across the island.  Please drop us an email team@emmasfoodbag.co.nz or give us a call 0800 10 10 11 and we can let you know where the pickup point closest to you is.

When do you deliver?

We deliver to you on Saturday mornings using our delivery partner – NZ Couriers.  This is generally between 8am – 1pm.  You will get an email on Friday night with a tracking link so you can follow its updates as it progresses to your house.  Please get in touch with us if you don’t receive this email or you haven’t received your meal box by lunchtime.  We will hunt your order down and make sure you get your meal box.  If there is an issue with your meal box not being delivered we will make sure it is stored in a fridge and delivered Monday morning.

What if I’m not home when you deliver? Do I have to be there to sign for it?

If you’re not home our wonderful delivery drivers will find a suitable place to put the food. When you order you can tell us your preferred delivery spot, where it’s safe from animals and the weather etc.  Please make sure you get your meal box into your fridge as soon as possible as the box will only store the food chilled till 5pm.

What if something is missing in my Emma’s food bag when it’s delivered?

Occasionally this happens from time to time.  The bags are packed by humans, not robots and in spite of our best and most thorough efforts things can go astray.  We provide you with a list of everything that is in your bag so check things off as you unpack and let us know as soon as possible if something is not right so that we can fix it.

OPTIONS

There are six of us in our family, is there a bag for us?

At this stage no, however you could order a 2 and 4 person bag! We are currently considering a 6 person bag, so get in touch and let us know you’re interested.

It’s just me in my household. Do you have a Single’s Bag?

At this stage no, however it is something we are considering so pop us a message to express your interest. In the meantime, we recommend ordering a two person bag. You can cook one meal one night either with less ingredients than indicated and cook something else out of the remaining ingredients or have the leftovers the next day. Win-win!

I’m a vegetarian, do you have vegetarian bags?

Yes, there are also Vegetarian options in the Bespoke Menu Planner!

Do you have a Gluten Free menu?

Our Menu has a range of Gluten Friendly meal options.  This means that they don’t contain any Gluten ingredients however they are packed in the same facility as Gluten so if you are trying to eliminate gluten from your diet then the Gluten friendly meals are fine, however if you are Coeliac then please be aware we can’t guarantee that the meals are free of any trace Gluten.

I have a small child, how “child friendly” are your meals?

Good question! The answer is, it depends on the child… Our recipes are aimed at families with a slight sense of adventure and a desire to try new things, but there is nothing too crazy in there.

Most meals are adaptable for different tastes too so use your imagination and get the kids involved.

What if I don’t like a meal, can I change the ingredients in it?​

The idea of Emma’s food bag is to make your life easy and take away the decision making process.  Many people who use our service do report trying things they wouldn’t normally cook and eat, so give it a go!  Green Eggs and Ham and all that!  You might just find a new favourite.  However, a lot of our customers tell us that they easily swap and change certain ingredients that are not on their favourite list.

You can make up your own bag on the main menu and pick and choose only the meals you want.

ALL ABOUT THE FOOD

Is the food healthy?

Absolutely – and delicious too!  Our meals are based on local fresh produce – lots of yummy fresh veggies, and good quality meats and protein sources.  Emma has a BSc Honours in Human Nutrition so you can trust that the food coming your way is both nutritious and delicious!  We endorse a nutritionally balanced diet, with plenty of freshness, variety but with the odd treat meal.

What does “nutritionally balanced” mean?

I hear you, it is such a vague statement isn’t it?  Even Emma who has a degree in Human Nutrition struggles with this term.  However, she would say that there is no one meal that, on its own is healthy or unhealthy, we have to look at it in the context of the diet.  Basically, all our meals are checked for nutritional content and we make sure that, across the week, any treats are counterbalanced by a lighter meal.

Do you include nutritional information such as kilojoule content in the bags?

Currently no but this is something we are working on bringing you very soon

Where does the food come from and how do I know you’re REALLY local?

That is something that is very important to us, and our customers too.  We don’t just call ourselves local, we are!  We always try to source our produce as local as possible from our base in Hamilton.  There are the odd things like Cacao powder that we have to source from outside of NZ but 99% of our products are locally produced.

Why does the fish and meat come vacuum packed?

Great question! In a nutshell, this type of packaging is not only more hygienic and environmentally friendly than regular Polystyrene packaging used by supermarkets, but it’s safer as it inhibits bacteria growth.  Because of the reduced oxygen flow, the meat can sometimes give off a stronger odour.  This does not mean it is off.  We recommend opening the packaging and allowing it to air for 10 minutes – after this the odour should have disappeared.
